Block a save (validation rules)

A validation rule stops a record from being saved, with your message, when its conditions hold — "Enter the material grade" when Material grade is empty, "Quantities over 100 need a note".

1. Built-in sections: switch to Edit, open the section's Edit dialog → Validation rules. Your forms: form builder → Validation rules.
2. Add rule: a name, the conditions that BLOCK the save (fields of the record itself, custom fields included), the message, and whether it checks adding, changing or both.
3. Save. From then on a save that matches is refused with the message, in the app and through the API.

On a new built-in record, rules on its custom fields are checked when the custom fields are saved (right after the record). Zudo AI proposes rules from sentences such as "do not allow saving an item without a material grade".
